Ferry to Cozumel

The primary gateway between Cozumel and the mainland of the Yucatan Peninsula, including Cancun and the Riviera Maya, is the passenger ferry from Playa del Carmen. You can see the ferries docked at the ferry pier in the photo taken from the patio of Casa Karma.

Thousands of tourists and locals every day take the 45 minute ride to or from Cozumel. It's very easy, and runs nearly every hour. The ferry makes it a piece of cake to go to or from Cozumel on a day trip.

If you step on to the beach from Casa Karma, it is less than a 10 minute walk, along the beach, to reach the ferry pier. (You leave the beach via a stairway next to Señor Frogs.) There are two ferry services. Usually, you don’t need reservations and can buy your tickets at the ferry operator booths. (You do not need to buy a ticket from one of the scalpers who hustle the line.) There is sometimes a line to enter the ferry terminal. And you don’t need to rent a car to get around Cozumel. Taxis are plentiful and cheaper than renting a car.

Cozumel has great snorkeling, beach clubs and excursions. For scuba enthusiasts, the coral reef drift diving is some of the best in the world.
